Our story

More than a century on this hill

Whitehall began in 1908 as a brush-arbor meeting on land given by the Hall family, and the first frame sanctuary went up the following spring. The building you see today — white clapboard, a steeple you can spot from the highway, and a bell that still rings before eleven — has been kept up by the congregation's own hands ever since.

About seventy of us gather each Sunday. We keep the old hymns and the Methodist order of worship, we look after our neighbors through the food pantry and the school backpack program, and we still put on a barbecue that draws half the county.

What we believe

We are part of The United Methodist Church, Western North Carolina Conference. We believe in the grace of God offered freely to everyone, in faith worked out through love of neighbor, and in a church where no one has to sit alone.
